Last night I quite suddenly went to see Bloc Party and The Go! Team at Hard Rock, I say quite suddenly because I found out about it five minutes before getting the tickets and then not having time to go home and primp because the show literally started at 7:30. There were a lot of folks there, a lot of the seventeenish set or maybe I just can't tell how old anyone is anymore. At any rate I was nearly trampled to death near the front of the crowd, at one point I yelled to erin I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE INJURED AT A MOTHERFUCKING BLOC PARTY CONCERT. I went home after because I was tired- I am perpetually tired but it's ok, I woke up and bought vintage end tables. One for my record player and one for my alarm clock.
Today I also watched "View to a Kill" which is an awesome James Bond movie with Christopher Walken and that Duran Duran song about dancing into the fire. There were two really good parts: one is Christopher Walken's blimp which has a giant ZORIN logo on the side of it, in which him and Grace Jones have (something similar to) the following exchange:
"That's quite a view."
"...to a kill."
And the other part is how the Duran Duran song keeps replaying itself in orchestrated versions throughout the film, altered to fit the mood of the scene, be it romantic, sad or tense.

I will post concert photos as soon as I have access to my USB cable, which will be on monday.

Has anyone ever seen Kenny Loggins and Jeremy Irons in the same room together?

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

random fun fact!

It kind of blows my mind that 1/5 of the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay (or gitmo, as I likes to call it) are on antidepressants. Besides the obvious questions this raises, such as what sort of insurance plan do they have that provides for psychopharmaceuticals, it also makes me wonder what the hell sort of mental state would one have to reach in order to warrant such medication. Does that mean the other 4/5 are in a good mood most of the time?

Depression is common in Guantanamo- oh thank you for clearing that up wikipedia, internet gods of all knowledge. I've gotta get back to writing headlines for coupon packets.

Click here to watch "Jaws 5: Fire Island"

It was a pretty good weekend. Thrifting, jogging, dancing to smiths/interpol/smiths/interpol, Lost, Hash House a Go-Go, lots and lots of putting together my apartment. Things are moving along nicely, now I just need a couch, a dining room table and a chest-of-drawers. The three most expensive things I could possibly need outside of diamonds and maybe some endangered species rugs. Oh and a helicopter, but who has the helipad you know what I am saying.

Here are some pictures of how the apartment is shaping up, the look I am going for is Gidget's bedroom. It still needs work:

I got the Quasar for eight bucks, don't worry I have a "real" television in my bedroom. This one is more for effect.

It's a vintage high chair, I bought it for the awesome plastic pattern. If I can find the right tools I will reassemble it into a barchair.

The record player arrived from ebay, yesterday I listened to "Go-Go", a korean album featuring J. Geils.

So there you go, ok back to writing mailers.

Things I just bought at the 99 cent store:
A cloth wallhanging with fish printed on it.
A mandarin-orange themed glass.
An "Official Olympic Souvenier Program" from the 1984 LA Olympics. It's actually from the 1984 LA Olympics. I have no idea what it was doing among the coloring books at a 99 cent store. It has this ad in it:

ps. our tv producer guy just informed me that his first car was, in fact, a chrysler laser.

Last night I finished the first season of LOST and now all I want to know about is the giant chicken monster guarding the island and good thing I have the first nine episodes of season two on dvd. That will give me something to do with my weekend. That and the eternal search for chairs.

Wouldn't life be just that much more complete if the Franz Ferdinand song "Michael" were in fact about Michael McDonald?

This is where I'll be so heavenly,
so come and dance with me Michael
So sexy, I'm sexy, So come and dance with me Michael
I'm all that you see, you wanna to see,
so come and dance with me Michael
So close now, so close now,so come and dance with me,
so come and dance with me, so come and dance with me

Michael, you're the boy with all the leather hips,
sticky hair, sticky hips, stubble on my sticky lips
Michael, you're the only one I'd ever want
only one I'd ever want only one I'd ever want
Beautiful boys on a beautiful dancefloor
Michael, you're dancing like a beautiful dance whore
Michael, waiting on a silver platter now ... and nothing matters now

...if only...

It makes my head hurt to think that someone doesn't like "The Great Gatsby". How could you not like that book? Its great and gatsby and I am currently listening to a mash up of radiohead and marvin gaye and what do you think about that?

"Suppose you met somebody just as careless as yourself?"
"I hope I never will, I hate careless people. That's why I like you."

There was a national rock paper scissors contest at Mandalay Bay here in Vegas. No, I'm not kidding. From the internet:
The first-ever USARPS League Championships will be held at the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on April 9. Hosted by Bud Light, this elite tournament will crown the nation's best Rock Paper Scissors player. That player with the sharpest mind and the fiercest wrist will not only be honored as the USARPS League Champion, but will be handed a grand prize of $50,000.

yep.

I am bored, I think. There are a million things I should be doing but instead I have been alternating between lying in bed and trying to muster an internet connection. Every time I lie down I have terrible dreams, not terrible but anxiety-ridden. I need a valium for my dreams. I'm trying to find someone in a building that keeps changing. It's important that I find this person but what do you do in a building that never stays in form. I'm trying to catch a plane but I don't know how to get to the airport/what time the plane takes off. I usually arrive at airports hours earlier than necessary and spend the rest of the time walking around the concourses with a soundtrack in my earphones. It's kind of relaxing, actually. Airports are relaxing, planes not so much. I am digressing.
Yesterday I bought some chairs for my apartment and I think that's it for the month. Decorating is so goddamn expensive and I want all my furniture now, all of it. I really should unpack what's already here to see what's what but that's numbers 8-76 on my million things I should be doing list, remember the one I am avoiding in favor of nasty dreams. Anyways one of the chairs is a friend for my plant Andre and the other one is lost in a sea of carpet and space. It really needs a couch. It really does, someone bring me a couch please. A couch and cable television and I think we will be set.
Last night Erin and I saw the aftermath of a terrible wreck on the corner of Trop and 15- something with enough force to tear the front end off a hummer and close the better part of four lanes. You can never tell with aftermath can you. At the doubledown we saw what appeared to be the love child of Michael Macdonald and Col. Sanders. dear god I hope it's smooth! Erin is going to have a party and play nothing but yacht rock. We also saw a hipster running in full urban get-up near UNLV and I sang "running hipster running free, see the hipster see the running hipster."
Maybe I will go to the gym in a bit. I wish they did yoga or pilates (or their special blend called "Piyo") at night, is that too much to ask. Apparently so.

MUSIC-OFF, CITY EDITION

VS.

(let's all try to ignore "You're The Inspiration" ok)

God I still have a giant knot in my stomach from this weekend. But I did move. I did do that- finally have one of my very own generic one bedroom apartments. I haven't wanted to update recently, I still don't. So being that the clear winner of the last music-off was "Earth Wind And Fire" (bringing them into the quarterfinals):

I think it's time for round three.
